MLD Assignment 9 Part I Prezi 2 Proposal Due March 12 (Updated): Propose your own topic on music, love and death. Select an area we have not yet covered. Your topic should explore the intersection of your major (or something you are very interested in, music, and a love/death topic). Submit a single spaced, printed 1/2 page rationale as to why this would make a good topic and explain briefly the material available to support your presentation. You may include supporting materials. Turn in the proposal at our class on the 12th. Part II Due March 17: Write short report in paragraph form or outline form that includes:
- Several articles
- Several songs
- Key notes on articles/songs that definitely demonstrate the connection of music /love /death /your major/ and societal values.
- A list of problems or work remaining to be done
- A title or hook for the project.
- Submit to turnitin/Prezi 2 Paragraph
MLD Assignment 10 Due March 17: View a video of the complete (2 hrs.) opera by Giaccomo Puccini La Boheme. Suggested link to the most recent film version of this opera: La Boheme You may view any production on video, either staged or set as a movie, there are many different productions, but you must view it all. After viewing the video go to the Blog for this course and enter a comment under the La Boheme blog. The comment is due by March 17 before class. We will use these comments to start our discussion about how drama and music work together to focus the listener repeatedly on the experience of death and what that means to us today. Read the blog assignment before viewing a production of La Boheme.
MLD Assignment 11 MLD Prezi Project 2: Due April 7, 2015.
MLD Assignment 12: View a video of the complete (2 hrs. 40 min.) opera Carmen, composed by George Bizet. The link is to a Zeffirelli production in an opera house that was filmed. However a terrific movie created by Zeffirelli of Carmen is really worth the time if you can get it, this version is available in our library and you will not be disappointed if you check it out. You may view any production on video, either staged or set as a movie, there are many different productions, but you must view it all. After viewing the video go to the Blog for this course and enter a comment under the Carmen blog. The comment is due by March 24 before class. Assignment 15 Submit a proposal of your final paper/Prezi to the instructor in class on Tuesday April 28. Include: topic, songs, resources (articles) and the link to society. The topic is to be taken from the information provided in Assignments 13 and 14. This paper/Prezi has the highest standard of the three projects. Students are expected to relate at a minimum 5 characteristics of the music (excluding the lyrics) that relate the work to the topic and values implied or explicitly stated as they relate to society. All submitted work must be clearly written.
